The Grandson of global racing icon and motorsport innovator, three-time World Formula One Champion, Sir Jack. Immensely talented and successful, Matt has shown the ability to forge his own wheel tracks and carry on the peerless Brabham name.
His decision to become a professional racing car driver was born around the dinner table, listening to stories from his Grandfather, father Geoff and Uncle David. Geoff and David both won the classic Le Mans 24 hour race.
Matt was born in Florida, USA in 1994, but grew up in Australia and holds dual citizenship in both countries.
He started Karting when he was 7 years old in Australia for fun, but quickly started to win races.
Matt progressed through the junior open wheel formula’s. Starting with Formula Ford in Australia, then returning to the United States he joined the Mazda Road to Indy program. Winning both the USF2000 (Cape Motorsports) & the Pro Mazda (Andretti Autosport) Championships in the first two years, then moving up to Indy Lights.
He has also raced in the FIA Formula E Championship, Robbie Gordon’s Super Stadium Truck Series, a Late Model NASCAR race, plus tested for the Audi DTM Team. Proving he has the ability to drive “anything”.
Matt ticked of one of his major career boxes in 2016, when he qualified for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500. Finished 22nd with the PIRTEK Team Murray entry. He also qualified 14th and finished 16th in the Angie’s List Grand Prix IndyCar race.
Matt is also a highly regarded ‘Driver Coach’ having helped Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing drivers win the last two USF2000 MRTI Championships.
Matt’s dream is to become a professional race car driver. He is well on his way, and is prepared to sacrifice everything to achieve his goals.
Raced in two IndyCar races, both at Indianapolis including the 100th running of the Indy 500, finishing in 22nd. Won 3 Stadium Super Truck races finishing 2nd overall in the Championship. Became the 4th Brabham to be elected into the Road Racing Drivers Club.
Drove Andretti Autosport Indy Lights car in St Petersburg & Long Beach, Stadium Super Trucks in Toronto, and two races in Australia. Plus tested Andretti’s IndyCar at Iowa & Sonoma, and drove in a Late Model NASCAR race. Also tested for Audi in their DTM car.
Drove Indy Lights for Andretti Autosport. Won at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Grand Prix circuit and Finished 4th in the Championship. Finished 2nd in the Freedom 100 by 0.005 sec. Raced in two FIA Formula E events (Malaysia & Uruguay) as Andretti reserve driver. Retained BRDC Rising Star membership.
Joined Andretti Autosport and dominated the Pro Mazda Series, easily winning the Championship and Rookie of the Year Titles. Won 13 out of 16 races including 7 in a row, 15 podiums, 10 poles & 13 fastest laps, all championship records in a calendar year. He also led 81% of all laps during the season. Awarded BRDC Rising Star status.
Moved back to the USA and in his 1st year won the “Mazda Road to Indy” USF2000 Series Championship and Rookie of the Year. Won 4 races, 5 seconds and 2 thirds. Won Team USA Scholarship to compete in 3 British Formula Renault 2.0 events. Finished 2nd at Rockingham.
Drove for the Sonic Formula Ford Team in Australian Formula Ford State & National Series. Won 8 out of 12 Vic State races, including 7 in a row. Also won 1 race overall in National Championship. Finished Year 12 studies at the Southport School (TSS) on the Gold Coast, QLD.
Competed in the Australian National Formula Ford Championship with the CAMS Rising Star Team. Scoring his first motor racing victory at Phillip Is. in the Vic State Series.
He moved up to Formula Ford as CAMS lowered the age for circuit racing to 14. Making his debut at Sandown, Vic on July 9th. Selected for the CAMS Rising Star Team for 2010
Matt started Karting when he was 7 years old. During his stella Karting career in Australia, he won 25% (38) of all his races in multiple divisions and had an impressive 57% top 3 finishing record.
