Brabham happy with 7th place finishes.

Matthew Brabham’s consistency paid off with a 7th place finish in all three races in Round 3 of the Genuine Ford Parts Formula Ford Championship held at Winton Raceway, Victoria over the week end.

Brabs driving his CAMS Rising Star / Minda Motorsports entry withstood constant pressure from a train of five cars led by New Zealand Champion Martin Short in every race. Despite battling with a car that was struggling for grip in the slow corners Matthew kept his nerve and produced an error free performance that moved him up to 10th in the championship with 20 points.

“All the races were really hard mentally today as I had Martin breathing down my neck in every corner of every lap and I knew one mistake would be all it would take to loose a couple of places. Plus the car was not hooked up that well in the slow corners so I was unable to keep up with the front guys but had just enough to stay ahead of the second group.” Matty explained.

This was Matthew’s best result in the Genuine Ford Parts Formula Ford Championship so far, and showed that the young 16 year old third generation rookie driver is really coming to grips driving a Formula Ford after recently making the transition from Karting.

Matty Brabs will be racing next week end at Round 2 of the Victorian Formula Ford State Series which is being held at the Sandown Circuit in Melbourne. He will be defending his points lead after winning Round 1 at Phillip Island last month.

“I am looking forward to Sandown next week end as I made my debut there last year. I feel I am improving every race at the moment so I hope to keep that momentum going into that race as well”.
