Brabham has hit out at Qld State race

Matthew Brabham competed at the Queensland State Round 1 event today at the Queensland Raceway circuit in Willowbank south of Brisbane.

The Cams Rising Star / Minda Motorsports Team were using the race as a test for the National Championship race which will be held at the same track on May 2nd.  Matthew used the occasion to practice his qualifying run, starts, car setup and learning the track in preparation for next week’s Victorian State race at Winton which will be a much bigger event with a lot of the National teams expected to compete.

The week end started brightly as Matthew qualified on pole for the Formula Ford race, however his fortunes were very mixed during the 4 heat races. A spin and a stuck throttle caused by picking up stones during the spin while in 2nd place added up to a DNF and a start at the rear of the grid in race 2, in which Matthew came through the field to finish 3rd. A great 1st lap in race 3  saw him leading the race but unfortunately a mix up with the flag saw the young driver pitting early by mistake.  This meant another trip to the back of the grid for race 4, despite a spin Matthew drove a solid race into 5th to finish off a rather up and down day of racing.

“It was good to get out and do some racing after all the testing we have done lately, I was very pleased with my qualifying effort, and my starts were a big improvement from last time so there were some positives out of that.  I made a bit of a blue with the chequered flag when I was leading race 3 but it was quite funny really and I know my teammates enjoyed it !. Anyway overall it was a good hit out with the real season just about to start, so I am really looking forward to that.”
